July 2008 - "Going Fishing" takes on real meaning when you're on Canim Lake. Large and challenging, Canim is an angler's dream. At 23 miles (37 km) long, over 650 ft. deep, and very UNcrowded, this is no small trout pond.

However, trout we do have...Rainbow & Lake Trout. And, Kokanee too! Plus we do have Freshwater Ling Cod (Burbot). As you can see, there is no shortage of excellent game fishing here on Canim Lake.

In addition to Canim Lake, there are many smaller lakes in this area that are teeming with Rainbow Trout. Minac Holiday Village is ideally positioned to act as your angling base no matter where you choose to fish.

Here are a couple of interesting shots. At the top, Tabitha & Mike (Mikey) Gonderman from Buckley, WA, USA display a couple of the many fish they caught while staying at Minac this summer. The shot below that one shows the whole family (including Mom & Dad a.k.a. Mike & Kirsten) in 2006 when they had also had a productive fishing trip up here.

We promised not to tell too many people that the kids outfished the parents this year, so please don't spread it around. What's that old expression?...
"Those that can, do. Those that can't, teach!"

  • Cruising on Canim Lake is a great highlight for your holiday. How about a very comfortable 18' pontoon cruiser? This is really a great way to enjoy the lake. This boat features very comfortable seating for up to 5 people...cushioned couches and a nice padded captain's chair for the pilot. Of course, a stereo system (AM/FM & CD) is included, along with a dining table for drinks and snacks.

And, if you're in the mood for a unique shore picnic, just pull up to a nice quiet spot on shore, and enjoy a lunch in the wilderness. (Sorry - We don't allow cooking on board).

Or maybe you'd prefer a smaller, but very nice fishing boat. The Princecraft is 14.5 ft. long with a wide 6 ft. beam (great stability). This one features a nice, clean & quiet 4-stroke motor (15 hp), all safety equipment, fish finder, rod holders, and a comfortable steering console. Ideal for an all-day fishing trip on Canim Lake, but it's also great for a cruise...holds up to 4 people comfortably.

All safety equipment (including PFD's) is included in our rental prices. All you have to do is bring yourself, step on board, and have a great time on the lake!

www.minac-on-the-lake.com - Mikey & Tabitha Gonderman with the morning catch on the dock
Here are 2 budding "fisherpeople" from Washington State with the morning catch. Mikey (7 yrs. old) & Tabitha (10 yrs. old) Gonderman posed for the camera after their parents (Mike & Kirsten) went out for some early morning fishin' fun on the lake.

According to Mike, their 'secret weapon' has been an incredible selection of lures from Chunk "A" Munk Lures in Puyallup, Washington.

These lures seem to attract anything and everything, as this string had 1 lake trout, 4 rainbow trout, and 1 kokanee! Not bad for an hour or so in the morning.

    Carswell Fishing Team

Week of August 16, 2004 - Canim Lake

Kim Carswell and his son Graeme from Delta, BC are shown here on our dock with their catch of the day...a nice lake trout! It was a 9 lb. caught in 40 ft. of water about 2 miles from Minac. And, they were in their very special rowboat when they caught this one!

    Graeme Carswell, Chief Oarsman

They were fishing in very hot weather, which usually slows down the activity quite a bit. However, being accomplished anglers, they devised a successful strategy to land this beauty. (Luck had nothing to do with it!)

    Congratulations, Kim & Graeme!

Note: Kim's brother Mark is rumoured to have a secret recipe for preparing Lake Trout that rivals the flavor of lobster. We've not been able to determine the exact preparation method for it, but if we do, it will appear here...wish us luck and keep checking this page for it!

    July 8 & 9, 2004 - Canim Lake:
Anita shows off her Lake Trout(s)!

Anita Slovak from Quesnel, BC caught this nice laker on the afternoon of July 8 right here at Minac (top photo). The fish weighed in at 9 lbs.

The second shot shows the 5 lb. Laker that she caught doing some "last minute" trolling just before leaving for home on Friday.

Fishing had been somewhat slow during the week (due in part to some unsettled weather), but persistence finally paid off! Anita and her partner Cody had been doing a fair amount of catch & release of both Rainbow and Lakers the previous few days.

    Congratulations, Anita!

Geoff Rochlow (on the left) and Alan Sherwood (on the right) landed these two impressive lake trout today! Geoff's weighed in at 18 lbs., while Al's came in at a healthy 12 lbs. These 2 fine lakers were caught in fairly deep water along the north shore of Canim Lake.

Geoff commented that this is the largest catch of his fishing career (so far).

Congratulations to both Geoff and Al...it was a great way to start off the season!
